    New prime

Well now I have two whole prime lenses.....the 50mm and now a Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro.
Read lots of reviews and got a good price on local craig's list for a barely used one.

I played with it a little and now I know how hard it is to get that dof right with a macro shot as can be seen in these examples.
Also, if anyone is looking for a nikon 18-135, which I still think is an excellent walk around lens, I'll be selling one on ebay starting on Sunday and whatever I get from it will be going to Greg's fundraiser.

    Very cool Frog...

I can't wait to see the picture once you get the hang of it..

Macro is always something that I see and talk about trying but I have yet to shot any. I hope when the weather break to rent a lens to play with.

    Tamron macro? Nice Frog.
Good selection. I look forward to seeing some of your work.

The nikon 18-135mm is a nice lens. I use one and really like it.

    Re: New prime

Congratulations Frog! You made a great choice with that lens. I used to have the Canon version. I did find that at least for me, there was a learning curve working with a true macro. It's a beautiful lens!

I have to say you did a great job with the image. 99% better than the results I got from the first few rounds of mine! However, I was working with film so had to wait to see what I was doing wrong.

    Enjoy!

Oh - btw. I would give the classifieds here a shot with the lens you are selling - at least post it there too. I've sold a few items including a dslr and a few good lenses right on PR. And because people here know you, they trust they're getting a good deal. It's worked great for me.

Post a link to the auction.

Nice shots. The limited DOF of a macro lens takes a lot of getting used to. Depending on how close you are to your subject, the DOF at f8 can be measured in millimeters!

Good work Frog! The Tamron is supposed to be one of the sharpest lens getting around at the moment.

I suggest getting a set of extension tubes, if you haven't already. Then you can get nice and close!

I love it but wish I hadn't spent the money right now but oh well.
I do have extension tubes, danic, and will be trying the two together sometime.
Glad you like my practice shots, nightengale. There's a better shot in the what's on your screen thread that I posted recently.

Thanks, shootme. It hasn't left my camera since I got it. Yesterday I was laying in wet grass and mud trying to get a shot. All I got was wet and dirty though..lol

Wow! Frog, I had no idea it would be that hard.
If a seasoned photog like yourself is having this much trouble you are talking me out of getting into this.

Is it the narrow DOF or slow shutter speed that's giving you trouble?
