    Cool New to the forum

I call myself wetbelly because one of my favorite photographic activities is to be down in the grass photographing flowers and bugs. After years of film photography using Canon equipment I tried a rangefinder digital. I liked the near instant gratification of digital, but missed the versitility of the SLR. A few months ago I bought an EOS 5D and started lugging it and my lens assortment again. Primarily I create slide shows for my monitor, but am having difficulty adjusting the monitor color. I am having the same problem with printing; I need to buy a better printer. I spend 6 months per year in an RV, where equipment and computer space is limited.

Welcome. You should get yourself a monitor calibration device such as a OptiCal spyder or similar. They are very easy to use and take up little space. Once I calibrated my monitor my printed pictures turned out how I wanted them. Also, depending on what printer you use, you may be able to download ICC profiles for the paper you are using. This is generally easier than making your own although you don't get complete control of everything. If you are in the market for a new printer, may I suggest the Epson R1800. It is a great 13x19 (or longer with roll paper) printer with archival ink. It prints outstanding images on all types of media, but is better (in my opinion) on matte surfaces. It is large, but so are all printers in its class. Now that you are here, please make sure you post a lot of images in both the critique forum and in viewfinder. You will find the folks here are very knowledgeable and give excellent advice without being condescending. Happy shooting!
