A New Film Friend!

On a recent photowalk at Taylor Creek Park in Toronto, Ontario I gave a film stock a try that film stock is Svema Foto 200, old film hands will probably has not heard of Svema film which is no surprise at it was founded in 1931 in the Ukraine. The company was the Kodak of the Soviet Block, and while their market share dropped when the Iron Curtain was torn in the 1990s, and suddenly all this western film was available. But...they hung on, and you can get them through the Film Photography Project!

Nice pictures - I like them a lot - especially the tree stump.

Question 1 - has some of the contrast been lost in the scanning process?
Question 2 - what scanner do you use - I am looking at scanning all of my old negatives which are B&W, Colour Negative, and Slide film and finding it difficult to pick a scanner so any help would be appreciated.

Q1: That always happens, I usually bring it into Ps to adjust the levels to get the contrast back. So these have been adjusted but the contrast is correct for the film based on a Darkroom contact sheet print.
Q2: Epson V700, but if you're going for a new one, look at the V800.

Will go and look at the V800 - thing that frightens me is the quantity that need scanning :-)

I know the feeling, I did a similar project for my grandfather scanning in all his and his wife's slides. Here's what I did, I went to my parents, gave them a light table and a good 2,000 slides, and said 'sort these, find the ones with people or the ones you want to see digitized' cut the number down to ~100. Took me a couple weeks to get it done.

Yes! Recent films of note that has used film: Star Trek, Star Trek: Into Darkness, and the new Star Wars films will all be shot on traditional 35mm stock. In the Bond Film Casino Royale the introduction scene was shot on Eastman Double X 5222
