So my father was given a Canon 10D for Christmas this year from his brother, and he bought himself the 17-40L for it. I told him that he really should get a more versatile lens (like a 28-105), especially since he shoots mostly snapshots and doesn't get too creative with it.
Yesterday I asked to throw the 17-40 on my Elan 7 so I could play around a little. His response: "the lens doesn't come off this camera!" I can appreciate the need to keep the chip free of dust (and it is HIS camera), but what is the point of having an SLR if you're not willing to swap out lenses every now and then?
Anyway, just needed to vent a bit...
