    My Packer Game snapshots

I call them snapshots because I'm quite disappointed with every shot. I decided to shoot jpeg on auto sports mode so that I wouldn't have to think as events unfolded in front of me -- I could just shoot. But I think I need to change my jpeg settings or something, because almost every picture came out dark, which has been a problem I've had with jpegs ever since I got the camera. What are some good jpeg settings for the DRebel?

Not only that, but my lens wasn't fast enough to catch the action. So I've got a good chronicle of the game, but nothing exceptional. All the shots that could have been great have motion blur. It didn't help at all that whenever I leaned on the railing, it was constantly shaking from all the people bumping it.

And then of course there's the problem of obstructed vision, with people in the way of a lot of good pictures.

So here's what I've decided to show you. I hope you don't mind that I'm posting a lot, but I figure I haven't posted anything at all for weeks and weeks, so I'm making up for it here. I figure it's better to have one really long thread about one subject, than to start 10 different threads about the same subject.

    Enjoy!

Here are some shots of things happening on the field:

And FINALLY, a couple miscellaneous, including what the field looked like from our seats (demonstrating our obstructed vision):

OK, one more. This is one of my favorite shots. Even though it's a bad shot, for some reason I really like it. It feels frantic, like it's managed to capture the emotion of an exciting football game.

    And with that, I'm done.

    I like them!

And you have a nice variaty of butt shots, when really, if you think about it, isn't that what football is all about?

So I know you said if you want to actually watch the game, it's better to do it from you living room, shooting at the game has got to be pretty neat too.

Heh heh, butt shots, I never noticed till you said that. My husband did ask me, during the game, if I was getting a lot of butt shots. Unfortunately, I'm not a butt gal. I go for the eyes.

Shooting at the game makes it go by VERY fast. Of course, it goes by really fast anyway, when you're there. I'm always surprised that the third quarter comes around so quickly, when at home I'm usually dozing off by the third quarter.

    Re: My Packer Game snapshots

I think you've given us some shots that are much more interesting than the actual game coverage shots. Some of the strongest, I think, are the one of the coach with about 6 very attentive players, the lady interviewer with her support group (I like that you can see that the fans' attention is well away from this), the 2 butt warmers, but my favorite is the absent cheerleader shot. I appreciate being able to see some of the integral parts of the game away from the action.

I always think it's funny how orange the crowd gets in Lambeau when the temperature drops a bit.

Chunk, the game was much more orange last Monday night because the attendees were asked to wear anything blaze orange they could, in remembrance of the six hunters who were shot and killed up north.

    Re: My Packer Game snapshots

    Kelly,

    These are great.

I know it's tempting to get down on your own work when you've had high expectations for them (I do that to myself at least!) but I think these are great shots and the kinds that you're likely to look back on later and say, "why didn't I like these again?"

I've never before seen a game chronicled the way you have here. I've seen shots like these spread out over many different places, but never before in one cohesive spot. In that, you've accomplished something great here. I felt like I was there! Literally!

    On to the shots:
I love the shots of the players on the field, I just think that's cool! (I'm not really into their butts or their eyes - guess I'm weird? ) The sidelines shots are very attentive on your part, that's a part of the game that's not often displayed photographically. Of your media shots, I can say that the guy alone looks like Jerry Seinfeld That's all the help I can be I'm afraid. The row of helmets is great, the photographer taking your picture is great, and the one of the guy smiling in the huddle is great! My only technial comment is that the shots seem to have a bit of a yellow tinge to them - I'm debating writing that because there's so much yellow in their jerseys I'm afraid it's influencing my color perception - but there seems to be some sort of color cast on them.

That's it! They're something to hold onto to remind you of the time you sat in the front row of the Packers game and took shots for the people up on photographyreview.com

    Cheers!

    Dear Kelly,

Me thinks that your photos are more than sports photos. You seem to have been able to capture the human element of the game as well. I particularly like the picuture with the players craning their necks towards the coach. Almost reminds me of goats or cows, I am not sure why . Great shots.
