    My grungy attempt...

Since grunge is showing up a lot lately, thought that I would throw in my attempt from a couple of months ago. I don't think I posted it here before. It's just a single exposure Photomatix set to 'Grunge'. - TF

Love it. It reminds me of these books I had as a child. They were encyclopedias aimed at children, there were a bunch of different ones such as "World History" and "History of the Orient", etc. They were from the early 70s, I think, and instead of pictures there were brightly colored drawings. This picture looks just like something out of these books!

I love the sysmetry of the composition. Your OTT HDR has produced a cool painted look that has a good visual appeal.
    i like it.

This over done HDR has appeal, unlike most that I have seen. Very Nice Terry.

Here is the original with Lightroom PP only. I like this shot except for the really bad sky. The red brick is much nicer.

Here is a lighter Photomatix EDR treatment. (Some of us have agreed to call the single exposure treatment EDR (Extended Dynamic Range) as opposed to the multi-shot HDR.)

It's done with a program called Photomatix. You can download and play with it for free. It is more often ubused than used. - TF

    Re: My grungy attempt...

In the last photo the colors of the trees are awesome, a combination of the brick colors from the original, the clouds and trees of the toned down EDR, with the better light on the building in the center I think would make it even better

Amazing what can be done with a single exposure, doesn't matter much if it is called HDR or EDR , the results are there for everyone to see.

    Re: My grungy attempt...

Great shot. I love how agressive tone mapping makes all the trees look like they need a throrium shot. I love that about aggressive HDR. In general I like that effect and the effect on stone even when I don't like it on everything else. Just my opinion, but this photo would probably work better with a bit more blend of the original building but keeping the trees and skies the way they are. Worth a try just for variety, although what you have it very good.

    Re: My grungy attempt...

Speedracer: Photomatix is pretty much the program of choice right now for HDR, although there are a lot of options. Photomatix gives you a large range of control though and allows for these extreme interpretations. It is hard to get a one tone map perfect shot though, but start playing with it. It is oddly pleasant to explore...
