My first gallery show of the year - and you're ALL invited!

I've made some lofty goals this year for both my commercial and gallery work, and things are getting off to a very good start. I was approached two weeks ago by the city of Tavares, Florida to be part of their first group show of the year, entitled International Intrigue.

The show opens today, and features my Destination: China series of 18 digitally enhanced photographs (http://www.photoasylum.com/dest_thumbs.html) as well as the work of three other artists.

In case any of you noticed me a bit absent here the last couple of weeks, (besides the holidays) it's because I've been busting my butt trying to get the work ready on such short notice.

Anyway, there is an opening reception tonight from 5-7pm at the City of Tavares City Hall, 201 East Main Street, Tavares Florida 32778 which will feature food, music, and...well... ME!

The show will run through February 10th, so if any of you are in the neighborhood (about an hour's drive north of Disney), you're more than welcome to stop by. Let me know you're in the area, and I'll be more than happy to hang with ya.

BTW, the Orlando Sentinel (newspaper) featured an nice feature on the show today on the front page of the local section, including a 1/3 page shot of one of my pieces on page three...

Congrats Steve. I wish I could make it (especially after shovelling about a foot of snow yesterday). The pictures look great and I like your web presentation too.

That's fantastic news! Thanks for the update, I've noticed you weren't around. Glad to see things are looking up!

Here's a link that Steve was too modest to post: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/...ck=1&cset=true

    Wow, what web sleuths...

Thanks, guys. Yeah, I checked the Sentinel's web site today, too, and found that page. Still, I didn't want to come across like some sort of "media hound" or publicity machine by shoving it down your throats, heh heh...

    Thanks for posting the link...

Congrads again! Wish I could see it in person but I don't think that's gonna work out right now. Very interesting pieces, I'd love to see the prints someday.

Steve you don't ever come across as a media hound. Quite the contrary. That's why Trevor and I bragged about your show for you.

It looks nice on the web, but you can't compare it in reality. It's stunning!

    Congrats Steve

That trip and the resulting images are paying dividends. It's great news that people will be able to see the full prints in person and see the true quality of the work.

Good luck on the show, and let us know how it goes. It's good sign considering that your year-end plans fell apart.

Unfortunately, we won't be down by Disney before then. But the girls are pushing for it.

    Not close enough I know!
Not my choice for that matter.

    Congratulations Steve!

Great News! My family lives in Port Richey. However, I haven't been to Florida for years.

I'm very happy for you. I hope it leads to more shows......and lots of sales.

Hi Peter - you're in the loop friend from downunder.......I didn't know anything about this - and I don't think many others here did either. ;)

    Have a great weekend everyone!

Since I was new to the forums, I only discovered Steve's Destination China work from his web site this past May. That's how I found out about his prints.

We got loops? I didn't know we had loops?

    Congratulations !
Sounds like a very good start to the year.
Wish I was there ... rather than cold, rainy Oxford.

I have rather less lofty goals for 2005.

    Thanks again, everyone...

Just an update to let you know the opening early Friday evening went great. No sales, but many of the good-sized crowd wanted to talk to me about the images, tell me how much they liked them, and learn more about how they were created.

Plus I think nearly every friend I have up in this area showed up...

As for this mysterious "loop" Peter, no, you're not out of it, it's just that in this case it was pretty tiny.

If you look at my first post, I mention that I had only one week's notice that I was going to show and to put all the work together, so no one, not even I had much advance 411 on the exhibit.

But I did mention it in my holiday email to you (sent on December 29th)...

Way to go Steve. I told some of my kids about the show and they want to throw together an impromptu club/class trip to the show with a minor, purely educational trip to the house of mouse. Too bad the school won't let us do it on less than 30 days notice.

Lots of luck, I hope you kick some serious financial tail.
