Missed photos

August has been a bit rough around here and I found myself on a Greyhound bus for the first time in my life from 8/13 to 8/16 I didn't have my camera as I had other things to worry about.
About an hour north of Denver I noticed a large dark blue/gray thunderstorm coming toward us. As it grew closer there were occasional streaks of lightning. This cloud went down to the horizon. As it got close the sun broke through to the west lighting three,(yes and odd number) barren trees in a field with that wonderful storm light and at the same time a brilliant rainbow stretched across the front of the storm cloud.
Of course, I drooled a bit but don't think the driver would have stopped the bus for me to take a photo anyway but this scene was right out of National Geographic or would have been widely known if captured. That's why I take photos because words don't do justice to some scenes and like they say a picture is worth a thousand words.
Before this becomes a thousand words, I would just like to hear from others about those 'missed shots'.

Been there done that John. I have missed many shots because of being too busy doing other things and not taking the camera with. Along the way I missed the following things, and this is just this year:
5 fires
1 standoff
a bunch of wrecks
a bunch of weather realted stuff from clouds to lightning and flooding
but I think the one I really missed out on was a father out in the yard playing ball with his son and daughter.... the paper would have loved that one.

I wish I had a pound for every photo I missed - I'd be quite wealthy :lol:

I have missed some photo's because the camera was in the rucksack - no time to get it out, e.g. a pilot whale which swam across the front of the boat and breathed out and then swam down the side of the boat, the worst one I missed that I can remember.

Oh yes, the one that I regret the most was during a summer when we had fires around the valley. They had about 30+ C130 parked on one of the runways and all the tails were lined up just perfect with a deep crimson sunset behind them. First and last time that I left my camera at home when I go out there.

Strange how those missed ones are so clear in our minds.
Another one I remember clearly was at our small town festival after dark.
The two bars get quite busy on those evenings and as I walked around I saw a girl of about 9 or 10 sitting on a chair outside a bar looking in the open door.
I'd already put my camera away for the evening.
