    The Milky Way

We went camping on Shackleford Banks for the Fourth Of July. While on the island, we were taken with how bright the Milky Way was away from the city lights. We can see the Milky Way from our house, but not this well.

These shots were all taken with a Nikon D300, Nikon 35mm f1.8 lens, and shot at an apeture of f2.0 for 30 seconds. The ISO was the only thing changed. I started at ISO 200, then went to 400, 800, 1600, and 3200. That dark sky isn't so dark after all.

I noticed it while camping last week myself. Never even thought to grab the camera though. Silly beer.

The great thing is, you don't have to photograph it to take it in and enjoy it!
