    Meteor Shower Time

For those of you who like astrophotography, now is the time to get those night landscape shots with meteors.

A fairly wide angle to a normal lens works well. Find a dark spot and have fun!

Thanks Speed! I have had good luck with the Sigma 10-20 for this type of work. Finding the dark spot...now that's a challenge.

Thnks. I know just a place to see them too. About 35 miles east of San Diego there's a rest stop that might be just far enough from the beaten path.

    Re: Meteor Shower Time

Thanks for the heads up. My area is almost dark enough, just did this one tonight to see how it would work. If I cant get far enough away from the lights I can just go to the back deck, then go back inside and read or watch a movie

I know what you mean! Since I've been living at my current residence, I've seen about a half dozen security lights go in around me. Plus I've got neighbors that like leaving their porch/garage lights on all night.

Saturday we spent at Cape Lookout, and the weather was awesome. Ever since, we've had clouds and very high humidity. Last night was clear, but the humidity was so bad, I could barely make out Antares. I'm hoping it dries up some by the weekend.

    Sure, rub it in!!!

I"ve got Provia 100 loaded in the K1000. 50mm is the widest lens I've got for the K1000, but I've found it works.

Good luck buddy, and we expect to see those shtos!

That sounds great GB! Seems nearly everyone can find a dark spot, if they're willing to travel. 35 miles is a ways to go, but the results can make it so worthwhile. I'm thinking I may need to go back to Cape Lookout. Or maybe out in the Croatan Forest. Decisions, decisions...

I like your test shot. You've definitely got the right idea!

Heck you are not that far from the Hood Canal. Has the Seattle area gotten that bad that you still can see the city lights?

I'm right across the water from Bremerton, walking distance from the bay between Bremerton and Port Orchard.

Here's my other test shot from the back deck, the deck light got turned on at 22 minutes :mad2:

The area's not the greatest for star trails, but it sure beats California!

I'm envious of your clear skies. Last night was overcast again. I saw one star - Vega. And the forecast isn't looking that good for the weekend.

    I Didn't Get Any...

    On my D200.

    Meteors, that is.

I've looked through the digital shots and came up empty. I saw several bright meteors, but didn't catch any on the D200. The K1000 on the other hand...I don't know. I took several exposures from two to ten minutes long. When I have the slides processed, then we'll see if I caught any with it.

Did any one catch any Perseids?
