In memory of my Best Friend

2009 is not off to a good start. My beloved dog Lucky died this afternoon. I had him for 12 years, sich the age of 7 months. He was the one bright spot in my life from 1997 on...Lucky knew all my secrets, moods, emotions, habits and loved me anyway, and all he asked for was to be loved in return, and boy did I. Everyone called him "The happiest Dog ever" and I really think he was! My heart is broken, lots of tears right now. The best thing is he didnt suffer, he died peacefully, as if sleeping. I miss him already. I love Nero and the kitty's of course, but Lucky was the first so to speak. I was the Lucky one...Here is Lucky and Nero Christmas eve night. He now has his very well deserved angel wings....
Lucky is on the left in the photo.

It's hard that we outlive them, but they offer us so much. One of my favorite quotes, though I have no idea where it came from, is, " I hope that I can be half the man that my dog thinks I am." - TF

Re: In memory of my Best Friend

    Dear Lori,

I am so sorry about Lucky. I wish I could say something to help take your pain away. I'm really glad you posted here as you have many friends on PR - and lots of us have dogs, cats and/or other pets that we are very close to. I know my Molly and Jeremy are very close to my heart and I don't know what I would do if something happened to them. I understand what you're saying about how you feel about Lucky because Molly is my first kitty and I know she understands me. I love Jeremy and Molly with all my heart, but Molly and I have an understanding, a different kind of relationship and closeness.

I'm so glad you shared with us - and please come back and share anytime you need a friend or support. We're here for you.

I'll keep you in my heart and prayers, Lori.

    Lori
I'm so sorry for your loss but Lucky was very fortunate to have a loving mom as you. I know it is hard to believe but each passing day will get a little easier with time. My dogs are my kids and believe me I know what you are going thru.
    Rest in peace Lucky.

I'm very sorry to hear that, Lori. It's amazing how close we get to our pets over the years; it's so tough to lose them, especially suddenly. I wish you all the best.

Deepest sympathy. What a terrible time of year, but spring will come and perhaps another new friend. Be glad he didn't suffer and you had him for that long.

My pooches and I will think of you. Hope 2009 only improves a bunch!

Its hard to lose a friend. I truly believe that some animals are more than pets that live with us and that we belong to them as much they do to us.

I'm sorry. I know how you feel. I've been thinking about how this year starts without my best friend ever, Soupy. And you're right - you were the lucky one. Pets give in a way that people can't. Be grateful you got to experience the love you did. Nothing lasts forever.

I do know how you feel, Lori, and, yes, it's the worst. It's so hard to lose an old friend, especially one whose love was so pure and unconditional. Thankfully, memories never die. Cherish them.

You have my deepest sympathy. Wishing you better days ahead.

    I'm sorry Lori.
We lost Loseley last November after 24 years, I think I know how you feel.

Christmas without any cat last year was not right.
Christmas with Tess this year, and no Loseley was just different.
In this house, there has to be a cat to share life with.

I loved the christmas hat photos.
Nero treating it as a toy.
The cats barely tolerating it and giving "the look" ... as they do.
Lucky just accepting it and posing, as I feel has happened before.

    Treasure those memories.
