after viewing your other thread, I see you must shoot for a newspaper, am I correct? The shots work very well with a newspaper story.

Yeah, I posted a link to the Memorial Day story up in the first post. I freelance for a couple local papers.

Excellent story here. And I think the shots stand very well on their own too - for example the railroad tracks being symmetrical in the frame. Attention to detail...

What keeps it interesting for me is that you used different angles and perspectives (not all just standing up), different focal lengths and different DOF. It would be hard to make an impact with ten shots all done the same way.

Thanks Steve. I've had some good mentors, and one thing that was always drilled into me is that the same angle and focal length for every shot is almost the same as just having one photo. At least that's how I understood it, whether that's what they meant or not.

Each image is a unique moment, and each one requires a different approach to be most effective. Especially since I don't ever know how much space there is on the page, they may run three, or they may run one. It forces me to shoot a variety of images that I try to keep cohesive, but that can stand on their own if need be.

These are all very good. My favs are the 3rd one (for it's simple and effective comp and great use of dof) and the last one. Very well planned points of view.
