    Magizines?

I've been acquiring my dad's old rangefinder's...which are nice, but mostly full of ads and interviews rather then informative articles. What are some good amateur focused magizines?

    Re: Magizines?

I won't claim to have seen all of them and been a long time since I bought one but from what I have seen browsing in the racks is, as you say, mostly advertising and interviews and re-hashed techniques and how tos. I'd stick with books, myself.

A lot depends on what type of photography you do. There are magazines out there that cover everything from general photography to outdoor photography to portraits and weddings and all sorts of things in between. Yes, a lot of them are full of adds and interviews, but the adds are a necessity and the interviews are often informative depending on who is being interviewed and what the topic is. Might be worth your while to visit one of your local book stores and/or camera stores and see what is on their shelves. Although, I only subscribe to 3 magazines, I am often checking my local book and camera stores just to see what is being published in the various magazines. Occassionally, I will buy one if it has an article or two that really intrigues me.

The other source of information is the web. Almost anything you want to know about is there, so, depending on your interests, if you Google some key words, I think you will be surprised at what you will find. HTH.

    Cheers,

    Chasseurs d'Images

For opinions on gear I always go for Chasseurs d'Images. OK it's in French so it probably isn't any use to you.

I've been collecting their reviews for years. They do a thorough technical test of each camera and lens, which usually runs to seven pages. If there's another magazine with the same level of detail then I'd be interested to know..

Here's just one page with the results for Sharpness, Smoothing (loss of definition due to noise reduction), Grain, Sharpening setting, ISO performnace, Colour rendezing, viewfinder accuracy, Noise (audible), Images/second and last but not least, autofocus performance.

I've blanked out the name of the camera due to copyright

Not buying any more gear this year. I hope
