    Re: Lowepro sling bags?

Sorry to get your hopes up by seeing a reply...

I don't have one but they always looked handy to me. A regular backpack is sometimes too much of a hassle to set down to get the camera out that you might not do it. Shoulder bags can get in the way. This seems to have most of the advantages but I don't know how it works in the real world. Hopefully someone has one...

Couple of sling bags here at the bottom but no reviews yet.

    Re: Lowepro sling bags?

Sorry Jimmy I've never used one. They look kind of cool but don't know how they would be to work out of. I have several bags that I have collected and used over the years. Right now the main bag is a Lowe Pro Nova that is fairly large and seems to hold everything I need at the moment. However I must admit I don't work out of a bag the way I use to. In film days and when I was using more primes and changing lenses a lot It was very important to have a bag I could work out of and have easy and ready access to my equipment. However now that I'm shooting digital I usually just hang a couple of cameras around the body and take off. One will have a short tel on it and the other a longer tel. If I need other equipment many time I'll stash the bag in a secure place that I can get back to fairly easily.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Re: Lowepro sling bags?

I looked at these when looking for a bag for the 5D, lenses, flash, Pro 1...

I ended up getting the rucksack because of the amount of equipment and the tripod carrier and the water protection system.

If you travel light then I think it would work well, but if you carry tripods... then not sure they would work as well. Not used one in the real world.

    Re: Lowepro sling bags?

Thanks all for the responses. My use for this would be when at race tracks where my car is parked outside the track and shooting from the infield.I will most likely have both bodies around my neck, when darkness falls dig into bag and have flash(s) ready to go. I can put my gear in one of the racers trailers that know, but sometimes it's easier to have my gear on myself, I don't like to impose on anybody. Thanks again, Jimmy B

Have you thought about a photo vest? For what you're describing, a vest sounds like it might work pretty good.

    Re: Lowepro sling bags?

i use a crumpler slingback for just that purpose. i prefer it to the lowepro as it fits my shoulder better and it comes with a third leg stabilising strap that means when i don't need fast access to it, it isn't sliding around my back. it can get a little heavy wearing it all day but it is much more handy than my lowepro backpack (that i only take out when i have lots of time to shoot or i need more gear)

    Re: Lowepro sling bags?

I have three bags. One can house everything and is like a suitcase.

The two others are Tamrac's Velocity Sling Packs. I have the 7 & 9. I use both of them depending on how much equipment I take.

The 9 is used mostly when I shoot at football games. It more then holds everything I need and is so easy to get in and out of. I'm not a real big person so the size is nice for my frame.
    It's not blurry. It's bokeh.

I have the smaller model. I use it in town when I am in crowds like at a museum or exhibition or something. I don't want a clumsy backpack that will knock things off tables behind my back, and I do want to be able to whip the camera out quickly and put it away again, without putting a backpack on the ground. I used to use a little shoulder back for this but the DSLR doesn't fit.

The problem with my model is that there is not much capacity. Once I have put in it body+lens + second lens + wallet + keys + notebook + money bag - well there isn't much space for anything else. A backpack may be clumsy but it's got space for extra clothing, books, stuff I pick up en route, etc.

For missions with a "normal" amount of gear I use a Rover Light or Mini Trecker backpack and for heavyweight jobs I have a large shoulder bag.

    Re: Lowepro sling bags?

by sling bag, what do you mean exactly? because I have heard it used many different ways, some people referring to a one strap backpack, and some to an over the shoulder bag. this is the one I use.. (my avatar)

here is a link for the one I purchased. It does have it's pros and cons for me. It will do what I want it to do. If I am at an event where my car isn't accessible it will hold what I need and it is on my person.
    Thanks for all the feedback.

    Re: Lowepro sling bags?

That's a nice looking bag Jimmy. When I bought my Velocity 9 bag there was some reason I picked it over the one you bought. I think it may have been the 70-200 lens wouldn't fit on my camera while in the bag? Not sure.

    Anyway, enjoy!

I'm from Washington State too btw. I live close to the Narrows Bridges. Seems weird saying bridges.

    Re: Lowepro sling bags?

Sorry, Jimmy, for not seeing this earlier. I see you already made your purchase. FWIW, here is a write-up I did a few months ago on my current bag:

    A Gadget Bag Question

Although not technically a sling bag, it has the best of all worlds IMO.
