    Looonnnngggg Weekend

Hi everybody, Kim and I had kind of an exciting weekend, so I thought I'd share with you.
It started out Friday afternoon, when we went window shopping for a new van. Kim and I have been wanting one for several years and frequently go window shopping to see whats available "used"! So far we have not found anything to fit our price range. As usual, we found something we liked but, they could not get the payments down where we could afford it. :mad2: . After we finished being told, "well let us see what we can do and if we can work something out, we'll call you", we went and picked up our 2 grandsons from our youngest daughter and went and got 2 of the other 3 from our oldest daughter and they all spent the night at grandmas and grandpas house. The rest of the evening went great. The kids played "nice" and all was well with everyone asleep by about 9:30. For the next few hours the baby was very restless and wouldn't sleep well, so I stayed up and kept comforting him. Finally, he settled down and I thought...finally, I can get a little sleep before someone else wakes up. Just as I was fallling asleep, the baby's big brother wakes up and wants mommy. He also wakes up the other baby, and Kim. To make a long story short, I put the baby back to sleep by putting her in my chair with me (her favorite place to nap) and she finally gets back to sleep and Kim takes Remmy into the bedroom and tries to comfort him. He cried for about 2 hours and finally went back to sleep. By this time, Kim & I had about 2 hours of sleep and it was already after 3 in the morning (Yawn). At 5, the youngest baby wakes up and wants to play. I guess I was zonked because Kim heard him from the bedroom and I didn't and he was just across the room from me. She woke me and sent me and Payton into the bedroom with Remmy, and she stayed in the living room with Wyatt and Dakota ( the oldest one who slept through it all!!!).
Anyway, I finally got up about 7:30 with my 2, and proceeded to fix breakfast while Kim got some morning chores done.
While I was fixing bowls of cereal for the 2 oldest ones, Payton snuck into the living room and proceeded to beat the tar out of the baby with toy. Kim comes running around the corner just in time to see her wallop him with a toy grinder. To make a long story short, the rest of the morning continued downhill. Could it get any worse. Actually, thank goodness...it didn't.
Our oldest daughter didn't dawdle after work and came after her 2 immediately, so now we were down to 2. We were waiting for a call from the auto dealer about the van, but it never came and it was already 4:30, so we decided to take the other 2 home, as grandma and grandpa needed a well deserved rest!!!
We had only gone about 3 blocks from our house when our cell phone rang. Lo and behold it was the dealer. He asked when we could get to the lot. I told him we had to drop the kids off and it would be about 45 minutes. I asked him if they managed to work something out. He said that his manager had some options to discuss with us. Uh oh...hehe...I know what that means...
We get to the lot, which is about a 30 mile drive. We meet up with the salesperson and he is very vague and will only tell us the manager has some options that may help get us into the original van we looked at. I asked him if they got the payments down where we could afford it. He just said...the manager has some options...hmmmmmmmmm...
After going through some initial paperwork, we finally got to speak to the manager. After some fast talking, he finally offers us the same payments that we had turned down the day before. I told him....NO WAY...we couldn't afford it yesterday and still can't today.
So after a few trips out of the office and some extra numbers crunching, he finally comes up with a smaller payment. It's still a lot higher than what we wanted, but Kim finally said she'd give up her weight watchers fees, which would make up for the difference. And we came to a deal. After cleaning our car out and stuffing all the junk in plastic bags, we finally got in "our new" 2003 Ford Windstar van for the nice ride home!!!! See pics below.....
To top off the weekend, Sunday was spent at a very nice potluck family get together with many of Kims family from all over meeting at a local park for a day of visiting and laughing!!!!
    All in all...a great weekend!!!

hehe...well..you got the best of the first 30 minutes...do you want me to put them "ALL" on??? Anyway, I got them all picked out, just haven't had the time, as you can probably tell by this post, to get the rest resized and uploaded. Had to go back to Dubuque for some final things on the van and just got back, but, I'm off the rest of the week!!! So look out PR...I might break 1500 this week...if I get busy!!! hehehehehehehe...

Way long weekend with a happy ending. :-) Congratulations on your Windstar. Family vans are the way to go if you have kids or grand kids. Heck, I'd still want a van even if I didn't have kids. They're just so nice and comfy, and practical too. We're on our second van, and we'll get another one after that too. The view all around is better in a van, and long trips are just plain more enjoyable than being cramped up in a sedan. I'll take a van over a luxury sedan any day of the week.

Thanx everyone. So far we really like it. My only gripe is that it's drivers seat doesn't go back far enough for my long legs and so I feel like I'm driving our old Escort. I'm going to check my local body shop and see if they can move the drivers seat back about 6 inches or more for me, but still leave it close enough for Kim. VCR seems to work great. Took some of the grandkids for a short test drive and they were quiet the whole way, watching Barney!!! That works for me!! hehe

    Re: Looonnnngggg Weekend

Ahh the joys of a new car. We seriously considered going to get one this weekend after we found out our 2001 Rodeo (that we bought new, had 8 miles on it) was going to cost $3700 to fix. Some seal broke, the oil sprayed out, and the engine seized. Hello new engine.

But we figured we weren't going to find something we wanted for under $4000, so we may as well get the one we have fixed, and save ourself a monthly car payment.

    Enjoy the new ride!

Oh bummer, Adina...I'm sorry to hear about the seal. Sad thing is, the seal kit probably costs a couple of hundred dollars and the rest is ALLLLLL labor. Maybe Kim and I will get a chance to come to your neck of the woods this summer and show it off, after we get back from Texas!!!! We owe our grandson a roadtrip, so maybe Milwaukee would be a good idea!!! Good luck on the Rodeo!!!!!

Actually, what we ended up needing was a whole new engine. So that's always fun.

If you make it to Milwakee, let us know, we can meet you for lunch or something...

Congrads on the new ride, Ken and Kim!

Adina, tough news about the engine but if everything else on it is fine and you plan to keep it for awhile then you made a good choice.
