    Looking for Lake Tahoe recommendations

Any recommendations on cool/scenic areas to shoot near Tahoe? I am going there the first week of October for 4 days, staying in South Lake. No real plans, just bringing my camera/hiking gear. Don't mind driving a little bit too if something is off the beaten path and worth it.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I think the most obvious places are the Flume Trail on the east side and Emerald Bay on the west shore. Here's a link to photos of the Flume Trail from my Tahoe trip this summer:

Thanks John, I just looked at that thread actually. Good stuff.

I am debating on bringing my bike or not, I may not want to drag it around with me. I could hike there either way.

I have only been once before, looking forward to it

You can rent a bike, too. That way you don't have to commit or take it with you. Just take your bike gear to keep your options open. The Flume Trail is one of the most beautiful rides you'll ever do, though.

Oh, I know. That was the one big ride I did the last time I went. At the time I wasn't really into photography, so it was more or less a biking trip.

Good call on the bike gear and rent a bike though, that way I can keep my options open

    Thanks again

If you are into a good dayhike, and the weather is right, Mt Talac is a good one with some killer views of Tahoe and the Desolation wilderness. Fallen Leaf lake in the area can also be pretty photogenic at the right time of day...

For general photographic spots, there is always the Emerald Bay area lookouts off 89.. The Volkingsholm one has the best variety from a single spot... Has the nice castle down by the lake, access to Eagle Falls, etc...

I'll see if I can remember any other good ones for ya...

I've ended up running into some lousy weather, except for yesterday. Yesterday the clouds and lighting made for some cool shots. Today it has been pouring all day and there hasn't been much to do except drink at the casinos most of the day ;) Here are some from yesterday...

Looks like you made the best of the challenging weather. Some definite keepers there!

Thanks for sharing, and sorry the weather wasn't more cooperative. Such is life in the hills...

Thanks everyone. I made a 12x18 print of #3 that came out awesome, thanks to the help of a local PhotogReview member!

    Beautiful!

Those are great photos, Josh! I also like the third one a lot. Love the contrasting colors and that sheet of rain coming down over the water. Where is that, anyway? I've never seen any pink sand at Tahoe.

Thank you John! That is at Baldwin Beach, just south of Emerald Bay. The lighting was amazing, I was in a ray of sun right there with the dark rain in the backdrop. All I did with this shot was add a touch of contrast, no color adjustments at all. I just lucked out with the timing I think
