Re: Look what I got today

    Thankyou, everyone.
I hope to get out with it in a few days. I read a lot of reviews and it seemed to be close to the quality of the Nikon but that baby is out of my range.
I don't know why Tokina labels some of its lenses 'pro'. That designation on something usually makes me leery of the quality.
    BTW Tel. I don't have a job. ;-)

From what I've seen and read, I don't think you have to worry with this lens. I hope you get out soon - can't wait to see those shots.

How about that Frog!! Fed Ex delivered a 12-24mm Tokina to my door about 10:30 am today as well. I can't wait to give mine a real workout.

Re: Look what I got today

Two of you in one day, I'm gonna go and sulk in a corner. I own the Tokina ATX Pro 100mm/2.8, 28-70mm/2.8 and until very recently the 80-200/2.8. I got to replace the 80-200 when the Deckcadet gave me his 20-200 VR. They use Pro to designate their better quality glass, similar the Canon L designator. Great glass and built like a tank, you can't beat that. They keep the prices down by eliminating any HSM focusing and the IS or VR circuitry. Anyone with a D40 series camera will have to manual focus. Have fun with the new toy Frog.

Re: Look what I got today

That is a coincidence OT. Mine came about 10:30 too but your 10:30 is before mine.
Hoping I can do something by Saturday...appointments tomorrow.
MJ, it does seem to be built like a tank. Its heavy but I think I can hold heavy steady easier than I can light.

Re: Look what I got today

Ok after appointments and such today I had to make a store run so grabbed the lens to see if I spotted anything worth shooting.
These aren't great and the light was poor but before having this lens I could not have got these shots without including extra posts, wires, garbage cans, etc. I'm loving how I can get closer and still get what I want in and not have to be standing in the middle of the street. Now I know I can get serious getting some town shots when the light is right here.

Re: Look what I got today

I had that lens in a Canon mount, it's a good one. Wonderful build quality, and the images were as good as I have seen out of my L lenses. The only reason I sold it was the purchase of a 5D, my 17-40 now covers that range on the 5D.

Well built and assembled, you will get a lot of use out of it. I sure did.

Oh the lens? It ain't bad either.

BTW I've got one (the lens that is) and you can actually shoot with it mounted on a 5D-gets you a really nice fake fisheye sort of look.
    No, I DON'T need that.

Re: Look what I got today

Well Frog, I'm glad you got to give that 12-24 a workout today. Very nice shots - and good color. I'm partial to Canon color - but I've noticed this lens does a good job with color rendition. I really like what you can fit into that lens too.
