the lonely death of Esmin Green

In June, 2008 a woman named Esmin Green collapsed and died in a N.Y. hospital after waiting for over 24 hours for care. She was left on the floor for quite some time before anyone bothered to acknowledge her. She might have been saved . . .The whole event was caught on a security camera and was watched by the entire world on media outlets and you-tube.

An artist friend of mine, Dawn Robyn Petrlik created a temporary installation dealing with the tragic event. It was on exhibit at the Brooklyn Waterfront Artist Coalition pier gallery and had drawn much attention from the press. Her work is always very good, and I was happy to be asked to cover the exhibit from start to finish.

It is a controversial piece that had drawn both support and anger . . .

I put together a slideshow of the photographic coverage.

Beautiful work, both you and Dawn Robyn Petrlik-
The moving scenes as Dawn re-created her body brought tears-but they are not enough-
I hope this record of her death pricks many consciences, for a long time, and encourages us to check on those isolated souls in our own areas.especially in the colder months.to come.

Thanks Greg, and susaan. I only hope that the her tragic death can stay in our minds and prevent and deter this from happening again. It was incredible, really.

Beautifully done, but as painful to watch as the orignal video.

Exceptional work Gary - both you and Dawn. The soundtrack is haunting too.

Great work by Dawn, and sensitively photographed and put together Gary.

    Terrific work by both.
