    Lillesden Girls Boarding School

Posted on of these shots in the critique thread and as promised and asked for, here are some of the interior and a bit of history about the place.

    Lillesden Girls Boarding School

The school occupies what used to be the Lillesden Estate Mansion, built at the estate (south of Hawkhurst) in 1855 by the banker Edward Loyd, who moved there after marrying.

The house and estate remained in the family until just after the First World War, when it was then sold and eventually became the Bedgebury Girls Public School.

The school closed around 1999 and has been abandoned ever since. Due to the theft of its lead roof, water damage is now sadly causing the buildings to collapse.

The location was also used for a Dr Who episode called "The Curse of Fenric"
A very, very cold morning.......... ;)

These are magnificant! Rather sad in a way...what a glorious building turning to dust.

    Wow!

Incredible images! What a beautiful building inside and out. I would love to have seen the original building when it was lived in.

You do incredible work. How do you find all of these treasures?

Great images. Like Lori, I would like to have seen it when it was lived in. I always find it a shame that such beautiful, old, historic buildings are allowed to fade into history without any attempt to preserve them. Reminds me a bit of what is suggested happens to any and all similar buildings in various parts of the world on the television series After People, now running on the History channel in our part of the world.

    Cheers,

It is a shame that old historic buildings can not be maintained, and preserved. This is one that definately deserves to be protected. Great images.

Very nice coverage of this old building. Tis a shame for sure that it has fallen into such a state of disrepair.
Coincidentally, I just came from viewing the "Lets See Your Abandoned and Dilapidated Buildings / Ruins" thread on the "other" forum.

It looks quite an interesting place for girls boarding school. Is this the school along the filsham road if so then it is no more, I believe it has been demolished and occupied for charity. But not sure about this.
