Let's See Your 2013 Fall Photos!

Fall has been sort of weird this year in Salt Lake. We had snow in the mountains before the leaves really turned. Photographers here were afraid that might ruin this year's fall colors but it looks like the leaves are still turning and getting better. And the early snow made for some great photos last week and through the weekend. I love it when I can get fall foliage and snow in the same photo

So here are a few of mine - all taken this past week with the new Olympus OM-D E-M1 I have in for review right now. Let's see what you guys have got!

    Fall! Ha!
I still got 6 or 8 weeks to go! And then it's just the kudzu that turns, as all the trees are evergreen....

Well, add them in you get some color - or pumpkins, or Halloween costumes

It's been looking good around here too. It will probably peak this weekend and I was planning on a dawn patrol summit until I remembered I'm on call for my software job. Damn it!
I managed to get some color captured with the snow last weekend and hope to get out some more before it's gone. I'm also a big fan of snow with foliage!

I went out to Ohio Pass last night hoping for a nice sunset but it was pretty gray. I tried to make the most of it anyway! It was a little spooky hiking back to the car in the dark (really dark) after I saw lots of bear poop and there have been mountain lion sightings around here a lot over the summer. But I made it without incident. Beautiful evening even if it wasn't as spectacular as some.

Re: Let's See Your 2013 Fall Photos!

The aspens are going OFF in your neck of the woods, Matt! From the photos I've been seeing on FB, they're turning well up in the mountains here, too. But I haven't been able to get up there since last weekend when they were still pretty dull.

By the way, my favorite from you in this thread so far is the photo of the backlit cottonwoods. I'm thinking about taking a drive this weekend to look for some small farm towns with mountain backgrounds and lit up cottonwoods. It might be a bit early for that at low altitudes. But it would be good to scout out some locations, even if the cottonwoods aren't quite ready.

Thanks, I just got a canvas print of the backlit cottonwoods and I have to say it does look pretty nice. I titled it "The morning after". It will be up for our monthly local "gallery crawl" tonight.
We are getting more reds and oranges in the foliage this year which is nice. I find all yellow leaves can get boring.

I agree. It's really nice when the aspens get some red in them as well as the standard yellow. We've got maples here too, so we get some really good red. But it's generally at a lower altitude and happens earlier than the aspens.

    A Couple More From Yesterday

There was more snow in the mountains on Thursday night so I went out yesterday morning to see what I could find. This is a brand new location for me and I'm going to keep an eye on this big cottonwood. It's got a lot of photo potential!

    Let's See Your 2013 Fall Photos!-_a040303_1200.jpg

This one was taken just after sunset last night, looking west from the top parking lot at Alta Ski Resort. There was a lot more snow up there than I expected and the temperature was down into the low twenties immediately after the sun went down. Winter might be here to stay in the mountains!

    Let's See Your 2013 Fall Photos!-_a040339_1200.jpg

Both of these photos were taken with the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the new 14-40mm f/2.8 Pro lens. I am really loving this camera. That's no surprise because I've always loved the Olympus Micro Four Thirds cameras. I really will need to buy one, eventually.

    Bumpity...

I'm sure that it's not just Matt and me taking fall color photos. Who else has some good foliage happening now? Share some photos!

Fighting geography here. Still weeks before what trees we have that change do change. Mostly pines and oaks here, i.e. evergreens.

But I came across this buttonbush along a trail in my park, and it actually had a red leaf on it. So here:

Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??
