    lensbaby vs software

I'm kicking around the idea of getting a lensbaby (composer if I do), but am well aware that it's effects can probably be duplicated in ps...or can they? I certainly like the idea of getting the image right off the bat if that's what I want to do at the time, but am equally inclined to learn how to do it after the fact. Opinions?

i maybe wrong but i though lensbabys actually shift the focal plane (among other things). in which case it wouldn't be able to be duplicated in post processing.

I may be wrong too, which lends for an even better reason to buy a new toy!

    Re: lensbaby vs software

I have a hard time believing there is anything that cannot be done in software given enough shots up front. Of course getting it in one is appealing I guess....

Go with the actual lensbaby, half the fun is using it! I use the composer myself, and it's a good time.

You could pretty much replicate the effects in post if you want to, but the Lensbaby could be a lot of fun to play with if those are the types of images you want. I had one for a couple weeks and sent it back. Nothing wrong with the lens, just didn't fit my style.

Lensbaby IQ sucks bigtime. Very disappointing, especially for the money. It is fun... until you see the images.

Alien Skin Bokeh yields much better results - far closer to those achieved with an expensive T-S lens.

The lens baby is not what I call a good lens. That said it's affects can and can't be duplicated with software. Get an adapter to attach your DSLR or SLR to the back of a view camera for a supper lens baby.

Very true, they are a toy, and like toys are fun.

It's like the Holga, it's not meant to be a good camera, yet they're fun to use.
