    KenRockwell.com

Does anyone here use KenRockwell.com as a reference site? If so, how accurate are his reviews??

The reason I'm asking is that I stumbled across his review of the Nikon D70 and am wondering if I should have waited for the 70 to come out before choosing to buy the D100.

    Thanks all!

Mentioning the name "Ken Rockwell" usually gets some strong opinions. Personally, I try to get info from alot of different places. Some things he says I agree with, some things I just don't get. I saw a film vs. digital comparison he did where he compared something like a D1H with a sheet of 4x5 velvia - come on, that's not a comparison! Why not try two similar systems, like a D1H or any other DSLR with 35mm velvia? Wouldn't that be more reasonable?

Anyway, the next digital camera that comes out is always better. DSLR's are all still new - wasn't the D1 introduced in '98? If you look at ancient history, Nikon came out with a new "F" series every 8 years - we would be seeing the F5's sucessor just this year if it wasn't for digital. You can't learn about digital photography without doing it! You did the right thing with the D100. The D70 doesn't make it any less camera, it's just newer. Same thing will happen soon enough anyway. I bought an S2 last summer even though the rumors were starting about an S3 (still not available yet, either). I figure it this way - shoot 5,000 frames with it and it's paid for (compared to slide film and processing - that's 140 rolls).

I usually take most reviewws with a grain of salt, and less than a grain when sample images are posted. The D100 is a fine camera, and getting the D70, or Canon, or Pentax, or whatever, won't give you any better image quality...or negligible differences, at the most. If you are getting good results from your D100, it will still give you the same good results when the D200, D80, D2x, etc. come out. I used to get caught up in the "new must be better" game...not anymore. :-)
