Just curious ... who takes their DSLR with them....

to work? Or about where ever they go for that matter. And if so ... what do you carry it in?

I've been taking my new D90 to work in LowePro fastpack. I like to sit it on my desk and look at while I'm working. Its a mood thing I guess.

A friend of mine was in a fender bender a few months ago by my office. I met them at the seen and took a dozen photos that actually made a big difference in the court case.

I've been bringing mine with, since I run to the forest preserve at lunch or after work when there's bad traffic.

I do occasionally, and then the weight (D300, 17-55 f/2.8) started to wear on my shoulders. so I switched to my LX3 or E-P1.

Never, only bring it to specific shoots or actual photography sessions, never just casually. Too much to carry around. thats why I'm looking to get me a point and shoot finally. The smart phone camera aint quite cutting it. . .

I take a camera with me many times when I'm going out but rarely to work on a regular basis. I'm with Gary in that i want a quality P&S to carry the rest of the time.

Re: Just curious ... who takes their DSLR with them....

I only bring the DSLR to work when I plan on doing some photography afterward. I do have a digital P&S in my glove compartment that I use for unexpected opportunities.

But other than work, I pretty much have my camera in my car or with me most of the time just in case I want to stop someplace and shoot. I guess I'm a photo geek.

mine is sitting under my desk right now. i just took my self portrait for the day in one of offices. i feel weird without a camera. how weird is that. and i sleep with it next to my bed. just crazy.

Never the DSLR, but often the micro 4/3 ... both of them.

Not the DSLR unless I knew I was going somewhere after work to shot some pictures but I do have the Canon S1 IS in my backpack all the time.

Re: Just curious ... who takes their DSLR with them....

I did for about a year but I don't anymore because it was more trouble than it was worth for me. It never got used. I do wish I had a nice point and shoot for that reason though.

And just a side note, I'm jealous of people who say they keep a camera in their glove box. I know not everyone lives in TX, but I just can't image doing that. Even in the winter we have random hot days. I wish I lived somewhere cooler because I would love to keep a camera in my car. I would buy a camera specifically for that purpose. ...maybe I should start carrying a purse.

My job requires travel over several states, so I take it with me just about everywhere I go. If I am driving, I take my loaded Tamrac backpack; if flying, I often just use a ThinkTank holster 50. Been kicking around a P&S for the flying trips, but still may get a G11 instead.

My cameras pretty much stay in either my work truck or my personal one. So yes I have them all of the time. I usually landscape with the E3 and street shot with the EP-1.

Re: Just curious ... who takes their DSLR with them....

I already have enough stuff to carry around with me when I go to work (portable PC, hard drive..). Plus I usually don't have time to think about doing any serious pictures anyway.

I have a minimal system with me all the time on my belt - my Sony SATIO smartphone. 12Mpix, 35mm f2.8 lens with vibration reduction, dedicated shutter release button, standard point-and-shoot features. It's enough.

Rarely my DSLR, used to be always with my P&S. A Micro 4:3 has replaced my P&S and now it's always with me. My office is a cockpit and I usually find something interesting to shoot during the course of a day, so having a camera nearby is a must.

I think this is what the Micro Four Thirds and other compact system cameras are best at. For me, anyway. They're a lot more than any point-and-shoot. But they're a lot easire to cart around than a digital SLR.

I almost never take my DSLR with me to work unless I know I'm going someplace afterwards. My DSLR is pretty much used for "serious" shoot when photography is my goal. I do have a G9 that is with me most of the time. That's what I use when I go to a family outing or walking the dogs etc. When photography isn't the primary goal the G9 fills my needs. When the goal of an outing is creating images then the DSLR kit goes with me.

Keep it in a lunch cooler. Seriously. Actually, your camera bag is plenty of insulation, as long as you keep it zipped up. But a cooler doesn't shout "Camera Bag!" to potential thieves.

I take my DSLR two or three days a week, usually going to the marshes or one of the parks before or after work.

Mine goes everywhere with me. Ok not to the market but you get the picture. If I can't secure it it doesn't go. I carry it all in a Speed Freak waist pack by Think Tank. Oh I frequently carry an F-5 film body as often as or with my DSLR.
If it's not handy and I see something worth shooting, I feel like I missed an opportunity to improve my skills. I don't live in an urban environment however, so I'm less concerned with someone needing my gear more than I do. I'm also lucky in that I'm rarely far from my vehicle, so nothing is ever left unattended for long.

I almost always have a camera with me, whether it's a Holga, a P&S, or my DSLR. The Holga is cheap and plastic, so I don't mind it bouncing around whatever bag I'm carrying. If I have the DSLR (a.k.a. Cthulhu) with me, I use my Tamrac backpack. As many of the old-timers here may remember, I had my camera with me on 9.11 (I worked downtown at the time) and the big black out a few years later, and got shots of both. Always, always, always carry a camera with you!
