    job opportunity questions:

so a couple weeks ago i handed in a resume/portfolio to a photo studio near where i live for an apprenticing/assistant job. She said she would call me closer to the summer to let me know if she had anything.

However, the time-frame she gave has passed.

should i do a follow-up call, like "i know you said you'd call me but i just wanted to... etc."

    thanks!

Call and tell her you're just touching base with her to let her know you're still interested.

Absolutely call. If she already hired someone, ask if you can have an "informational interview" so you can learn a little about her business and assisting. Maybe offer to tag along and help on a job. I did this stuff when I was learning and it was invaluable. I also made some good contacts that I have till this day.

She may be waiting for you to call, to show that you're really interested. Or maybe she's just busy with other things and hasn't gotten around to calling you. Stranger things have happened... Definately give her a call!

    Yep, follow up is important...

Annie, a follow-up should be automatic for something like this.

Just make sure they won't perceive it as bugging them. Wait the mentioned time period (which you have), and if you speak with the woman you met with, make your next move depending on what she tells you. If you have to leave a message, wait again for a few days or so and then call back again.

There are any of a number of reasons they may be interested but have yet to call you, the obvious one being that they may have misplaced your contact info.

Hey, it's been known to happen...

I agree with everyone else--definately call.
