    ISS & Atlantis STS-129

I went out and shot the ISS and the space shuttle Atlantis, STS-129, flying over my house tonight. I set up my D200 with my Sigma 28-70mm f2.8. 30 second exposure at f2.8, 28mm, and ISO 400.

The green hue is from the security lights and I have not been able to get rid of it without losing all the natural colors.

The ISS is the bright line, and if you look behind it, very slightly offset, you will see a fainter line that is the Atlantis.

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving Day. I did, and this shot topped it off quite nicely.

Cool shot Speed! I've seen various shuttles on many occasions and it's always amazing how fast they move across the sky.

I'm old enough to remember thinking how cool it was to see the sputnik blinking across the sky and how EVERYONE went out to see it....some with awe and some with fear, sure that the Russians were going to drop bombs out of it or something.

Wonderful image. Reminds me of the 4th of July a few years back. Literally right after the fireworks display, I looked at my watch and then right where the ISS was going to fly by and there she was, right on the tick. Suddenly, the fireworks show was a distant memory. It's really cool to see in real time. But images like yours are the next best thing!

    So can I!

Thanks Shebang! I was not expecting to catch it like this. Ironically, my D200 was on my second tripod (a small aluminum one I bought 10 or 12 years ago) and the tilt lock went out on me. So I set the tripod with the camera nearly level and shot this. It came out a lot better than I was expecting.

    Thanks Jetrim.

Most satelites move pretty fast - if you think 17,000 miles per hour is fast!

    I do! :-)

Sputnik was before my time, but I still remember such oldies as Skylab and the original Space Shuttle launch.

    Thanks photographam!

It is easy to spot the ISS if you know where to look. I use SpaceWeather.com for flyby times. Give it a try.

    Thanks James!

It is really neat to see something fly over and know that's the ISS, or the shuttle, or an iridium satelite. Capturing it with your camera is also a blast.
