    Introducing myself

Hi everyone! I just joined your community yesterday after lurking for a couple of days. I really like the supportive vibe you guys have. It's nice to see a photo community that isn't all snark and one upsmanship. I hope to learn a lot by being here.

My name is Lisa. I'm 34, married and mom to 3 kids, living in Dayton, Ohio. I've had a love affair with photography for a very long time. But with 3 young kids and a tiny budget it hasn't been able to go far. About a year ago I got a Nikon D40 and I'm very slowly adding to my gear. I've got a couple lenses, and just got a new flash, tripod and remote. I hope to upgrade cameras in the next couple of years but the D40 seems to be a good starting point. My goal is to slowly inch my way toward a career in photography. I'm just not sure of my focus. I've shot a wedding for a friend which was great. I also have a couple of maternity and newborn shoots coming up in the summer. I'm basically forcing my friends to be my guinea pigs for practice while I learn and hopefully add to my portfolio.

Thanks for having me here and I can't wait to get to know everyone!

Isn't it a cool thing in nature that the colours never seem to clash...

    Welcome to the forum....

Great to hear that you are using friends as guinea pigs , thats what friends are for... Would really like to see some of your work.

Like Frog mentioned post some pictures in the Viewfinder and Critique areas. Plus ask all the questions that you need. Plenty of helpful people with a lot of knowledge.

I'm actually a bit nervous about doing that! I'm humbled by most of what I've seen here and am thinking I'm not quite up to the level most are here. But I'll have to get over it and post some

    Re: Introducing myself

Aw come on. Post some horrible stuff so we can all feel good about ours. Just kidding.
Best thing I ever did here was post photos for critique and doing critiques.
Both taught me loads. Being critiqued taught me what I was doing wrong and how to do it right, and critiquing others taught me what I wanted to achieve and what to look for.

    Re: Introducing myself

Welcome! Many got to the level they are now because they posted here! I'm a newbie as well and there are some others that are very new that just started posting. I know how you feel about being intimidated to post compared to some here - but everybody is really nice and it's a great way to learn.
