    India - across Bengal

    Hi all

I have been scanning some old photographs in preparation for a talk I am doing soon. I will probably post a few of them over the next couple of days.

The first batch brought me back to January 2001 when I cycled across Bengal, staying in Leprosy hospitals along the way. It was a wonderful experience as you can imagine: beginning at Calcutta, and riding west into rural India where westerners are rarely seen - plus the sobering and yet inspiring work which is done among leprosy sufferers.

The first three pictures are just pics I grabbed along the way. The last two are women with leprosy. Due to the need to keep weight down, the camera I used was a cheap P & S film camera.

    Cheers
    Mike

    Re: India - across Bengal

Most of us are so isolated in our techno/industrial worlds and have never seen what most of the world lives like.
One can read about it but the photos you and others share tell the more compelling story.
Thank you for sharing these, Mike.

    Beautiful and moving set,Mike.
Its hard to image life as these people live it,without being there - humbling to accept their hospitality, and a mistake to imagine they are all miserable - some serious lessons in gratitude were passed gently on to me in situations just like this.
    Looking forward to more....
