Icy Austin and my new G7

I'm a winner! Seriously. Come on...stop laughing. It's undisputable. I won the review contest, and PJ sent me a Canon Powershot G7. How lucky is that? I never win anything.

Today Austin is under half an inch of ice and I'm stuck at home, so I thought this would be a good time to play with my new toy. Here are a few pictures from my yard. The image stabilization is very nice, but I think my shivering tested its limits.

The camera seems very capable over all. I have to agree completely with every thing I've read about its excellent build quality. The controls are very logical, the 6x zoom covers a nice range, and I love the image stabilization. Picture quality seems good, but I haven't done my part to see how good it can really be.

I hope everyone else is staying warm. Down here in Texas, everything shuts down when we get ice. It's nice not having to go to work, but if I don't get out of the house soon, I'm going to go crazy.

Paul, there are few things cooler than winning something that actually has some value and use. Congrats. Hope you guys get out from under that weather soon...

Congrats on the winnings! We finally got some snow out of that weather system - the NWS said for my area "generally less than one inch" but that was a few inches ago...

    Congrats....on the win.

I just read the specs on the G7 and it has come a long way from my old G2.

Re: Icy Austin and my new G7

    Thanks, guys!

I just got out of the house for a little while. Went to a coffee shop a few blocks away. It was packed. Most other places are closed. Steve, we actually had some snow here too, but not enough to measure.

The specs for the G7 are impressive. It's the first compact digital I've owned, my only other digital being a D70s. I have used a few other compacts though, and this one seems much nicer than most. That first shot was taken at 400 ISO...not bad for a tiny sensor.

I have a huge backlog of other photos that I need to sort through, so I'm having trouble finding time to really test this thing out. I'll post some more shots when I can. I think it has a lot of potential.

Gongratulations Paul!! It's nice to see that an active member of the forum won the review contest.
