Iceland Anyone?

I'm going to Iceland in July for some 4x4 and photography fun. Anyone here ever been?

If so, any "Must See" places you can recommend.. Things that are not on the normal tourist radar would be preferable.

I had a brief stint in Iceland in December, Reykjavik seemed like a nice place, but I was most impressed by the brochure I saw in the Egilsstadir airport of things to see and do in eastern Iceland. I plan on visiting Iceland again after seeing what was there after I was there for business.

The first couple days we are there we will be cutting up through the island's interior, going from the south to the northeast. Once we reach the northern section we will head east, following the Ring road back to Reykjavik.

I am so jazzed about this trip! I can't wait for July 1 to get here!!

I don't know much about Iceland but it is a place I'd like to visit and photograph. I've talked to photographers who've been there and they all love it. Check out this photographer's work on Flickr. Frog, we will be off roading in Iceland for two weeks. At some point we will be near the volcano.

Not sure if thread "bumps" are appreciated here, but I'd love to revive this thread and see how the trip went. I'm heading to Iceland (with no itinerary) November 5th, and would love some tips.

I won't be 4x4ing (is that a verb?), but rather flying into Reykjavik with myself, a backpack and camera. I haven't even planned where to stay yet. With that in mind, any tips on cool or extreme places to see within a reasonable distance from the city?
