    Ice Jams and Floods

We've had a pretty exciting week here in eastern Montana, with some warm temperatures arriving while we had a LOT of wet, heavy snow on the ground. The combination of rapid melting, and ice-filled river and continued precipitation led to some very serious ice jams and subsequent flooding. I took a number of photos and videos (via DSLR, something I never thought I'd do!), and thought I'd share a couple.

Here is a before (regular river flow) and after (ice jam above broke loose) shot from roughly the same position on the same morning.

Here is a video I shot of an ice jam just as it broke loose and started flowing down river.
