I Took My Holga To An "Anti War Rally"

I went to the "Anti War Rally" that took place in Salt Lake on 24 September. I like to go such events they are always full of interesting people.
So here are four photographs I got there.

This is from the warm up rally, I saw these signs on the ground and thought they were an interesting composition.

This is, well you know.. ;)

Awesome images Brian. I especialy liked the signs on the ground and the evil Bush. I feel the Holga look really suites this kind od photography. Like the people themselves it has an abnormal and strangly ominous feel to it. It really seems to set off the fact that these people and their beliefes are part of the fringe and not the mainstream.

    Nice going dude.

Hmmm, looks vaguely like the other anti-war rallies I've heard about/seen. Lots of protesters...if your idea of a lot is 20 or 30.

I agree with Almo, this is not mainstream America.

BTW Brian, I also agree with Almo that the Holga was the perfect choice for this!

Re: I Took My Holga To An "Anti War Rally"

Brian – great job a documenting the scene that went on. It probably was a small protest, but that is because it happened in Utah…not really a place known for leftist protests, in my opinion.

To say that only a fringe minority of Americans believe that the war in Iraq is wrong, is well, wrong. Most people in America share some level of disapproval for the current conflict. CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll released September 19th showed that the support for Shrub’s management of the war in Iraq has dropped to 32 percent, with 67 percent telling pollsters they disapproved of how Bush is prosecuting the conflict.
The DC protest had more than 20 to 30 people, try somewhere around 200,000 to 300,000 thousand. The Demonstration Is the Largest in Capital Since U.S. Military Invaded Iraq.
Roughly 147,000 U.S. troops are in Iraq. Since the war began in March 2003, 1,911 U.S. members of the military have been killed and 14,641 have been wounded. In my opinion, that is way to many kids killed or maimed for a war that did not need to occur, especially for the false reasons given.
I support our troops, they are just doing their jobs, that is what soldiers do. This does not mean I support this war…and I don’t think this shows any level of weakness. I am just not in favor of an occupation and that is what is currently happening, not a war.

    Well said PT...

This is a tough situation. I have friends and family in Iraq.

I think the important thing is that we not let the "pro" and "anti" war tag separate us. We need everybody's creative input in solving this thing. Discounting a group because they are for or against will lead to a group think solution. We have to do better.

    Brian,

I think these are great pictures, and the use of the Holga is perfect for such a sureal event. The first and last are my favorites.

This war is a touchy subject. I personally am not in favor of it, and living in Texas, I find it very hard to speak my mind. One of the things that bothers me the most about this division in our society is the "warmonger" and "anti-American" labels being thrown around. It's ridiculous to think that any sane American does not support the troops, or that they want innocent people to die. We aren't monsters, and we shouldn't forget that we all want the same things. Anyone who takes the time to think and feel on this topic is a patriot. Those who don't care are the ones we should be worried about.
