Translation for non-UK residents:

Brum = Birmingham, in the West Midlands of England.

2nd largest city in the British Isles (unless Manchester has overtaken it) with about 1 million inhabitants. It is a fairly new city as Europe goes (about 200 years old). Used to the the center of the motor industry. There is very little to see there - the city rebuilt every 30 years or so. The Museum of Art is interesting (Pre-Raphaelites), and the shops are pretty good.

It is also my "home town" though it's not home any more. I go back there as little as possible. Whenever I move house I check that the new place is farther from Birmingham.
