    Hurricane Irene

    We really lucked out in my neighborhood; we never lost power, and damage, while existed, was not catastrophic like it was in other regions.

    Good stuff, Megan. That flooded promenade - that's the one along the East River? Where did that water come from? Isn't the river a few yards lower?

    Thanks! Astoria Park slopes down to Shore Blvd along the East River. Water ran off the park and flooded Shore Boulevard and drained into the East River, eventually. The river was very high, but not high enough to flood the boulevard.
