    The common name is Dackel, or Teckel (they're easier to spell) but since Dachs is the German for badger the name badger hound stuck.

    Like the Dulux dog as a breed, instead of Old English sheepdog

    At one dog park, my wife witnessed a dachshund (not this one) catch and shake to death a groundhog that had entered the park by crawling underneath the fence. The 'hog was nearly 80% of the dog's body but instinct took over.
