Did you know they were bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals?

The common name is Dackel, or Teckel (they're easier to spell) but since Dachs is the German for badger the name badger hound stuck.

Like the Dulux dog as a breed, instead of Old English sheepdog :)

At one dog park, my wife witnessed a dachshund (not this one) catch and shake to death a groundhog that had entered the park by crawling underneath the fence. The 'hog was nearly 80% of the dog's body but instinct took over.
