HOLGA questions!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just got my Holga, and oh what fun! No instruction booklet, no warranty, no bells and whistles, no auto advance..... its just what I expected and more!

I need to get some film and I will be ready -oh what simple fun!

OK, here's my question(s)!

What settings do you usually use for general outdoor hand held use-mountain?
Does the sun / partly cloudy (n?) switch really do any good?

The back door has already fallen off! How funny! How many of you have accidently taken double exposures? I just know that I will forget to advance it at some point!

Any other Holga advice/tricks appreciated!

Here's a link to some Holga advice that I just found.

So my Holga is 1/100 at F8 or F11. Now I know what the cloudy button and distance buttons are on the lens.

I use ASA 400 film and in most cases always have it on the "Sunny" icon i.e. f/11.

To answer your second question use, use lot's of tape! Black Duct Tape.
I usually tape the top and bottom seams of the back and then I tape the metal bracket that holds the back on. Put it on both brackets.
I would also put a small strip of duct tape on the front, at the seams between the viewfinder and the rest of the body, on both sides. Make sense?
But then again, try it without it for a while too.

Double exposures happen! Heck triple and quadruple ones even happen too sometimes. I have one photograph I did several years ago, that was successful, and to this day I have no idea how many exposures are on it.

Where did you get it from anyway? What version do you have? S, CFN, N, What?

Kathy, I think you got ripped off. My Holgas came with a full 3-day warranty. The only things it didn't cover were manufacturing defects or any problems caused by buyer usage...

Too bad shipping took 4 days!

I use gaffer's tape on mine; it actually doubles the value of the camera. Haven't done much with it yet, but the only real way of exposure control you have other than f8 or f11 is the ISO speed (which I really started thinking more about with digital, ironically). Tri-X can be rated at a lot of different speeds, just depends on how you develop the film. I've got a couple of rolls of Ilford Delta 3200, but this film doesn't have the latitude that Tri-X does. I could get out the light meter and figure out what ISO speed I should use based on 1/100 at f8, but should probably just try it and see what happens - that's more along the lines of the Holga method!

I will be going on a last minute trip this weekend and taking my Holga. My first experience with it will be at my cousin's wedding or at the beach. Thank God that I am not the paid photog at this wedding! I can actually have some FUN! (Its been a long time)

We may hit the beach first before the wedding though!

My 120 film hasn't arrived yet so I will try to find a camera store on the way for some Gaffer tape/film.

I have already loaded the camera with 35mm Ilford 400, because I want to try some full sprocket effects.

Black tape for a Holga girl. Big roll of black gaffer tape. Tape is your friend.
