    Re: Happy Memorial Day

Thankyou, Dave. Too many have forgotten what this day is for and only think of it as a weekend to go camping or have a barbecue.
I'm planning on getting up early tomorrow to try to get some decent shots at a local 'old soldiers home' cemetary.
    Keep Shooting!

    Re: Happy Memorial Day

As a vet I thank you for starting this thread Dave and I thank all my brother and sister vets for their current, past and future service. And, in memorium, all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, I especially honor them on this, their special day. I would also like to pay special memorium to my father whom I lost in 1964. A US Navy Veteran who lost his life not in war but served honorably in WWII.
His service was at the end of WWII and he got out as a Seaman. Mine was at the end of VietNam and I also got out as a Seaman.

Long may the waves wash ashore on the beaches of a free America, so that our brave soldiers and sailors did not give their lives in vain.
    Ken

    Re: Happy Memorial Day

A Happy Memorial Day to everyone. It was a year ago that Lake & Sumter Style Magazine ran a feature story on Florida National Cemetery that featured my photos:

    http://www.ocalastyle.com/styleadmin...=745&zoneid=39

I had shot the piece the month before, making three visits to nearby Bushnell and spending quite a bit of time there, much of it in solitude. It was an emotional and spiritual event for me, especially because my father is buried there as well.

The majority of the veterans interned at FNC were not killed in combat (my father included), but the connection to those who were and gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country is ever present.

    Re: Happy Memorial Day

Wonderful tribute thread. Makes me grateful to be an American and to have fellow country men and women that were will to make sacrifices so that I can enjoy all that is great about this country. Wish I had an adequate image to share from Memorial Day. Here is a tribute to returning veteran of the Iraq war that I took a couple of weekends ago. Thanks for the sacrifices.

Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??
