    gps's

anyone know of a good gps that can be useful for driving, as well as hiking and such. My dad has an older magellan crossover that covers this, but I have yet to be impressed with it's performance (will be upgrading the firmware for him soon...). Price range is hopefully under $300. thanks for any future advice.

A friend of mine at work is a serious bike rider he bought one of these after researching the subject. He loves it. Maybe just over 300 though.

    Re: gps's

The problem with GPS out here in OR, the gps can put you in danger of death as it directs you down summer only roads. There have been two reported cases this winter already of drivers getting stuck in snow on a road the gps told them to take. Luckily friends used a gps to find their missing family and the other found a spot where the cell phone worked.

You should always have a real map out here, as nature doesn't care. There are many places where you are in the middle of nowhere without cell service, and miles away from any traveled road in the winter, out here in the west
