    Giansanti - R.I.P. 2009

Gianni Giansanti, photographer of Popes, Athletes, World Leaders and famed moments in journalism has died at age 52.

Thought of by many as the 'Pope's Photographer' his early fame came from being in the right place covering the turmoil of politics and the violence associated with Europe's struggles in the 1970's and 1980's. From Karol Wojtyla election as the first Non-Italian pope in centuries to the terrorism that was part and parcel of Italian politics, Giansanti photographed it.

Gianni Giansanti, 1956-2009, dead in Rome Wednesday, 18 March.
