    Finally won something. . . .!!

Aside from sporting events when I was younger, I can't remember ever having won anything and so this was exciting for me especially since it was with one of my photographs.
I had some work in a juried show/competition at a private gallery (Gallery 364) and was awarded Best in Show for this print. Came with a decent cash prize as well. The piece was a 20x28" print dry mounted to conservation board and matted with black mat in a 24x32"frame. The print was quite sharp. there is writing on the stone wall that is visible in the large print but not at all in this web image.
Also, the gallery owner wants the piece for herself and will purchase it at shows end.
    Just wanted to share . . .

    Gary,

That is terrific news and well deserved. Make sure the gallery owner pays top dollar.

The theme was Seasons. the other three were these. A max of four could be accepted per artist and she accepted my four. Most of the people who attended the reception really liked "Wooden Fence", but the judges preferred "Autumn from within Cunningham Tower"

Congratulations, Gary! You deserve it. That's quite a compliment that the gallery owner wanted it for herself.

Excellent news, Gary! We are among good company here, I guess

I like the first of these three the best. But I know how sometimes seeing a good print can be a completely different experience - especially if it's a big print. I love a good, big print! The print that won - is it a hand-colored black and white print? I wish I could see it in person

    Re: Finally won something. . . .!!

    congrats..

i really LOVE the first one of the 3 shots that you put together.

either the clouds are very low, or there is a "snow blow" (if that's a correct terminology) although all three are excellent.

i can see why the fence one was so well liked, a complete sense of solitude... (and bloody cold no doubt).

seriously though all four are outstanding.

at least the gallery owner knows a great shot when she sees one..

If anyone deserves to win your images do Gary. Congratulations. I think the writing on the stone is still just visible; is it right of center above what appears to be steps, about an inch from top of frame?

    Re: Finally won something. . . .!!

Thanks for all the kind words.
Threelions, that is my personal fav as well. They are low clouds near the farmhouse which sits up on a small hill, so I was actually veiwing up at it giving me the point of view to get the clouds looking like a snow blow, or snow tornado as my girl calls it.

Tom, Yes there is writing where you describe but there is something on the right side inner wall of the window written with a dark spray paint that say "He whispers redm . . . . . ."and then hard to make out the rest.
John, the image was converted to b&w and then I selectively bring back color in the amounts and areas that I want. This is pretty much how I go about alot of my images, but it gets more involved than just that. The inside of this tower was monotone to begin with so it is fairly close to what it really was.

There was an article written about the gallery and show in Brooklyns Daily Eagle.

    WTG Gary!

Great shot. I know it's a very gratifying thing when your image wins anything, much less cash...

BTW... I could see the writing. Looks like "BaE 93" to me.

Great to see your work getting the recognition we have known that you deserve for a long time. Take a big bow and keep those cash prizes and print sales going.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

Thank you Brian, Alison, Larry, and John.
John, yes you have that writing correct, but the writing I spoke of is far to the left of that on the inner wall of the window. Definetely not viewable here in this image even with a magnifying glass
