    are the mechanics of the spring the same? ive had really crappy lens caps that wouldn't stay on, and really good ones that you could bang around and would stay on, based on differences of the springy thing.

    Hmmm, always had excellent luck with OpTech hinged lens caps ( example here ) as they're just about impossible to lose - even for me. The only drawback is they don't work on long lenses with big hoods. They don't offer one with a G on it for 70% more though
