    Full Moon - Last of 2009

    I learned about how to use highpass for sharpening, in this case for the moon image, I got better results vs. using the unsharp mask

    100% crop of original image
    Adjusted light curve to improve contrast
    Sharpened with highpass overlay

    Fantastic image!! Would appreciate your sharing your exposure details with the gang. Did you use a tripod?

    Thanks,

    Exposure details are in the EXIF data
    Exif Sub IFD

    * Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 8/10000 second ===> 1/1250 second
    * Lens F-Number / F-Stop = 56/10 ===> ƒ/5.6
    * Exposure Program = manual control (1)
    * ISO Speed Ratings = 200
    * Exposure Bias (EV) = -2/6 ===> -0.33
    * Max Aperture Value (APEX) = 49/10 ===> 4.9
    Max Aperture = ƒ/5.46
    * Focal Length = 270/1 mm ===> 270 mm
    Nice shot Armando!

    Very nice. This is actually a blue moon. The 2nd full moon of the month is known as a blue moon.

    I have been using the high pass method of sharpening exclusively now for a year or two. I find it much easier to control the amount of sharpening as well as what gets sharpened.

    Thanks for the comments.

    Yes I used a tripod and fired using the remote control to avoid camera shake.

    I was surprised to see in the exif the lens length at 270mm and not 300, the camera was pointed upward, the zoom must have slipped a bit to the back

    It's certainly a pretty picture, and has a good amount of detail, such as the trails leading out of the craters. But what if you tweaked the contrast a little to bring out some more detail? Here is my moon picture, not from this moon but from a few years back, as an example.
