    First photo with D70

So after much deliberation, questioning and reading I took the plunge and bought the D70. Initial thoughts are - I am going to love this camera!

This is one of the first shots. All auto (am still reading the manual), no natural light - just camera flash...

Am following your posts with interest Seb.

    Hello Fran,

Congratulation (as I have said in another tread). I'll be keeping an eye on your posts as well.

    Hi Seb,

With all these new D70 owners we may have to request our own forum! LOL!
Yep, I have bought the kit lens which I think will take some getting used to - the aperture ring (or lack there of) is confusing me no end!

I haven't played with a Nikon in a while so it is taking some getting used to but I will definately tell you more as I get to know the camera and lense.

Just a little more depth of field would be nice Fran. Read the Manual, Read the Manual, Read the Manual, and even then you will have to carry it all over the place with you I bet, I do with the Canon 10D, just so much to remember sometimes.

How is North Queensland treating you today, we had Fog in Sydney till around 10.15 this morning, shutdown the harbour for a while.

    Those first images...

Those first images are always so exciting with a new camera. The D70 is my 7th Nikon over a period of the last 32 years. Bought my first an F body in 1972 still have it and it preforms as well today it did the day I bought it. As a matter of fact I still have all the Nikons I ever aquired, just can't seem to bring myself to part with them. When we get into the this camera vs that camera thing I kind of laugh even though I have been pure Nikon for so many years. It is the eye and mind behind the viewfinder that matters not the equipment. That said I am still very excited about the D70 probably as much as I was when the F body arrived 30 plus years ago. There is so much to learn and process that I wonder if an old timer like myself is up to the challenge. With you and the other here at PR I am sure this is going to be one whale of a ride. Keep posting and sharing your D70 images and newly aquired knowledge.

Thanks for the comments Peter and Old Timer! Yep I agree it is going to be a STEEP learning curve with this camera but like you Old Timer it is one that I am enjoying! This is my second Nikon camera. I lost my first in a relationship split years back - think I was more upset about the camera ;0). I hadn't really been able to afford another one since so I am excited to be back! I agree with you about the camera debate - though there is something about the Nikon that makes me feel good about taking photos and I suppose that is where your equipment impacts on that whole "it is the eye and mind behind the viewfinder that matters" - if you know what I mean!

I am heading to Mission Beach tomorrow which is promoted in North Queensland, Australia as "where the rainforest meets the sea" so I hope to get some great natural light shots. Tropical Islands, long golden beaches, beautiful lush rainforest - my new toy will be my best friend tomorrow!

Peter - NQ is treating me just fine today - it is the beginning of the most beautiful time of the year up here - gorgeous days at exactly the right temp. The humidity of the summer has left taking the unbearable heat with it - along with an astronomical electricity bill (aircon is my saviour!).

I was thinking - I am jealous of these 'outings' our American friends are taking advantage of - maybe if we can post something to find out how many Aussies there are posting on this board we could see if we can set something up - any thoughts?

    Thanks again,

    Fran
