    first day with digital slr ( canon 400 d xti )

    i steped into the world of digital slr's after picking up my canon 400d ( xti )

    i have never used anyform of slr before so please be kind when/if u comment on my pics

    hope i posted them ok... i did upload them to the gallery on here but it added them all twice so i used photobucket instead

    You seem to have a good eye.
    If you want real critiques post one at a time in the critique forum.
    I will say that the first two seem too soft. The third is sharp. I like the composition on the bottle but would crop a lot of the right off. I like your first portrait but not the second and the guitar seems pretty good but might need more dof...or not.

    Off to a good start Andy What Frog is referring to is "depth of field". Using the guitar for reference, currently everything from about 6 inches - 9 inches in front of the lens is in focus, while everything else is blurry. Stopping down your lens (using a higher aperture number) will bring more of the guitar into focus, giving you more "depth of field".

    i had another go little bit diffrent this time

    one more pic to come after this one and thats my first day of having a slt finished

    Good eye indeed. Good ideas on the pictures; the perfect execution will come with experience. I like the first portrait the best. I agree with Frog on the pointers. Depth of field is (usually) an artistic choice, but I think the point with the guitar is the strings leading off into the distance would add more to the image if they were in the range of focus.
