Judging by this shot and the casino and train station shots, it appears you are wandering around in the dark a lot lately, Grandpaw (wink)
    Good night shots all.
We've about run out of the non chain drive ins here so glad you still have at least one.
    Keep Shooting!

You should try a lower ISO and a longer exposure time.

Re: Ed's Drive Inn at night

Thanks John for your comments and yes I do like wandering around at night taking pictures.

BigTex, there are a combination of reasons for using the higher ISO. I am standing on the median of a four lane road with cars going by between me and the drive in so a longer exposure time was not an option. I started out with a lower ISO and wider F stop but the red letters on the ice cream sign were flashing on and of and the wider F stop made the letters fat and fuzzy looking just as a wider f stop effects fireworks. I wanted the letters more defined so I kept using smaller F stops to get the letters to come out more defined making my ISO climb higher. Normally I would use a very low ISO with a longer shutter time but with having the sign going on and off and the cars going by this was the only option that was fast enough to be able to get the shot. When I arrived the drive in was only a few minutes away from closing so I did what I had to do to get the shot. What looks like noise around the sign is actually the light reflecting off of leaves on an oak tree.

Thanks to both of you for taking a look and leave a comment, Jeff

Thanks for the explanation of why you used the high ISO. I was also going to make the same suggestion as BigTex. What ISO did you shoot this at? It looks pretty good but I still find the noise a bit distracting. Standing in the middle of the road is a pretty good reason to make it quick, though

The ISO was 1600 but I think what you are seeing is the light from the sign reflecting of the leaves of an oak tree that is behind the sign in the dark area above the roof, Jeff
