    Re: The family grew today

Cassie decided she had enough of the little guy trying to nurse on her...I guess those little teeth are pretty sharp and she sent him flying with her nose. They get along pretty well though, and Gizmo slept next to the cat last night for a while. Hermy even licked Gizmo on the nose, but this morning the two of them had a disagreement about play time....Hermy won with one bat to the nose and Gizmo laid down and went to sleep. It's really neat though seeing both Hermy and Cassie mothering him and keeping him out of certain things and places they know they are not allowed  He's learning

Great, heartwarming pics, John. Thats the beauty of being young, no fear. Gizmo is a cool name.
I notice his legs are rather short with a thick body. He may be a heavy dog, but not a very large one. I love dogs, but ended up with a Cat . . . . long story.

    Re: The family grew today

    gahspidy,

Oh there is a cat too... a mean fat cat who doesn't like anyone or anything that isn't allowed to live in "her" house. Mice live short lives in this house as do pizza delivery people I think she thinks shes a guard dog instead of a cat and at 20lbs she has some weight to add to her meaness.
Mean or not she is warming up to Gizmo though which is a good sign

As for Gizmo's short legs, Cassie had the same short stubbies at that age, but she grew and grew and grew till I finally cut off the puppy food last month. Now Cassie is just "filling out" and I think she may actually be closer to 120lbs now and she is 1 year and 9 months old. As you can tell though she has a very healthy and shiny coat...and attitude

    Re: The family grew today

Yeah, I really like the idea of different animals living and getting along like family in one happy house. Even though she may be a mean cat, she seems to have a maternal instinct and will no doubt look after Gizmo from now on . . .as long as he knows his place with her.
My cat is the complete oppostie. A complete and total lover. Very affectionate. We have just started to allow her to sleep on the foot of the bed, but she purrs so loudly that I wind up booting her off anyway. She is smart, comes back on after I'm sleeping and then I leave her be in the morning.

    Re: The family grew today

Psycho Kitty...aka Hermy doesn't purr very loud, you barely hear her. but she will come when you call her name (yeah, she reponds to Hermy or Psycho Kitty but not if I call one of the dogs!)
Now if you want noise you should hear Cassie when she snores! This dog snores so loud she wakes me up and I am really hard to wake up.

As for the bed, Cassie has her side, the cat has her side and Gizmo is finding his place, needless to say it's crowded and will get worse when Gizmo gets fully grown. As it is Cassie takes up half the bed At least I'll stay warm in the winter :blush2:

    Re: The family grew today

Gizmo made his first trip to the vet today and didn't even flinch when he got his first shot The vet said he's in great shape and will be a beautiful dog when he grows up. He loves the patterns of his fur.
Meanwhile at home Gizmo and Cassie continue to wear each other out....
And some more photos ... no Cassie isn't licking her chops because she just ate Gizmo or Hermy

He's pretty smart for as young as he is. The first time I told him to "stay" he came to a screeching stop and sat down and stayed right there...not bad for an 8 week old! He learned quickly that when the big dog goes out he should, and he has no problems with the stairs going out or in

You are right, it bites that people train these dogs to be mean, they are extremly strong, even this little guy at just over 9lbs can pick up his own weight and haul it around the house.... but that is part of the reason people use them for dog fighting etc..This little guy is too nice to be fighter, but I am sure he will, like Cassie have the protective nature when he grows up. Cassie hasn't been trained to do it, but she has caught one guy trying to steal stuff from the garage. The last thing that guy said was "we ain't coming back here!"
as he jumped in a truck. I know she bit him but no one got treated locally for a dog bite after wards.

    Re: The family grew today

Ok, this is odd, at least to me, but it seems Gizmo's tougne is/has changed color and is now Purple, Black and "some" Pink. I remember the vet saying his gums were Purple and didn't think much of it as he said "he's in great shape"but that now mostly purple tougne caught me off guard.... he's an interesting critter though. Last night I wake up to find the gat wrapped around my right arm, Cassie laying her head on my stomach (hmmm, thats why I couldn't breath ) and then Gizmo was sound asleep with his nose buried in the back of my neck and his hea on my left shoulder and one paw on my chest like he was hugging me.....everyone asleep except ME!

LOL, just now Gizmo came running into the living room from the kitchen and he was soaked..... the cat chasing him, so I am guessing Hermy did her famous "dunk the dog" trick by jumping on his head while he's drinking.... she does that to Cassie and now Cassie won't drink when Hermy is in the kitchen Pretty funny when a 20lb cat rules a 120lb dog. At the moment Cassie is chewing on Gizmo and Hermyis biting Cassies ear.... they get along great!

Yup, he definately could have some Chow in him... and I don't mean what he ate either I knew that though when I got him.... but being a cross between a Pitbull and a Chow he will either be very mellow or very aggressive, not much of a chance for "inbetween" though. He definately has an attitude and lets you know when he doesn't agree with you, but 99% of the time he's just cute and cuddly  He's now learned he can get off the bed or couch without help. He can climb onto the couch but not the bed yet.
He's also found it's fun t climb all over Cassie... except when she stands up

    Re: The Monster Grows!

Well Gizmo had his second visit to the vet today for his shots and the workers were all amazed when we weighed him because just 3 short weeks ago he was 9lbs and today he weighed in at 16.7lbs. The vet then looked him over and said "he's gonna be a monster". He then looked at Cassie's paperwork and noticed she had similar weight gain and then Hermy the cat weighs 20.6lbs so he asked what I am feeding these monsters. I said they get Purina puppy chow, the cat snacks on it too He said Gizmo is going to be very large
One interesting thing the vet noticed that I also had seen is Gizmo's tounge is now completly purple on top, pink with a black stripe down the middle underneath, he said thats very unusual. He's definately a character.
Ok, time to start hoarding dg food......

    Re: The family grew today

Well Gizmo had his third vet visit and he's once again shown he's a growing little monster as he added another 10lbs and by the time he goes on the 3rd of next month he should be above 40lbs! He and Cassie are eating close to 40lbs of dog food a week. Gizmo and Cassie are getting along great, especially when out playing in the snow These two photos were from a couple weeks ago as I was getting ready to go off to work.
