Ever have a wardrobe malfunction while shooting?!

Boy did yesterday kind of stink... not only did the couple in the hotel room next to me fight... loudly... for three hours starting at 3 a.m., keeping me awake half the night, but while shooting the Kia Tucson after the first press conference, my pants split. Oh yay! I had to run back to the hotel room and change. Then I put a new CF card in my camera, and it decided to strike - and stuck on the same number of frames left as the almost-full one I took out. A half hour of erasing and re-erasing, re-initializing etc. later, it finally decided the the new card was, indeed, empty. On to Fisker, right on time for the press conference, but not on time to finagle a spot up front. I got my shots though. Phew. Stupid pants!

Here are a few shots from the show.

Nice shots, esp the one of the green car. Yeah I have some fighting neighbors too but they usually only go for 30 mins or so .. always at 2 or 3 am though, odd. Someone could use them for movie material.

Heh heh heh... thanks all. And to the dirty old men... the pants were summarily fired. I threw them out and even left a note for housekeeping at the Westin that they were in the garbage on purpose!

Thanks Susaan - I haven't updated the blog in a long time. I should start blogging again... hmmm.... I'm not downtown anymore, so I no longer have my Holga trained on the erratic Wall St. pulse.

Was it a full moon this weekend? I don't recall. ;-P

I've never had anything like that happen while I was shooting. But when I was in college I had a furniture delivery job and blew my pants out setting down something heavy. The best part was - I was, ummm, commando.

And that's not all. My partner insisted we complete the next delivery before he took me back to my apartment so I could change my pants. The next delivery was breezy.

Sounds like you handled it like a pro. Baggy gangster pants for you from now on?

Hope you have more of that Tucson to share sometime. That is one of the 'hotter' styling cars out at the moment.

Bondage automobile work? Or just a pit bull of a car on a leash? Fun stuff.

On your, uh, experience the best I can say is that you are not alone in having 'felt the breeze'. I had a notable tuxedo failure once upon a time. Shot the rest of that wedding in jeans with a red face.

Well, trouble comes in threes... so after erasing the CF card and reforrmatting about six times with some software, one camera agreed that it really was an empty CF card... the trouble was up just in time to run over and make the Fisker press conference (but not in a good spot to photograph the reveal. Oh well.) Here are my shots of the Fisker Karma.

    Megan,

With all the trouble you had with your Digitals would you be interested in a near new manual 35mm Nikon F, only used on Sundays by a little old lady to take church choir photos.

Last year during my annual trip to Brazil I traveled 4 hours by car and then walked another hour to get some photos. Well the battery in my Canon A1 died, and my spare was dead. Walk another hour, drive 4 hours, Buy a 2 pack of PX28 batteries at a local store for $30.00 and go back the next day.

Ain't technology great sometimes I think that the old manual everything mechanical stuff had a lot of good points. And sometimes you can't win for loosing.

But I love your work, it is truely ART.

Re: Ever have a wardrobe malfunction while shooting?!

I wasn't shooting, but I did have a major wardrobe malfunction decades ago - had a kinda tight dress on with a zipper from the nape to below hip level -- that blew out in a very public place -- it was very embarrassing.

Your photos are absolutely stunning. It took forever for the FK to downloand -- but worth the wait!

    Several near-misses.
    All involving trouser loss.
When the braces fail, I have to hold my trousers up while taking off cameras, rucksack, jacket so I can get down enough layers to fix the problem.

Inevitably something happens like a crash and I miss it.

Re: Ever have a wardrobe malfunction while shooting?!

Megan, that sounded like a real tough time, but being a pro you came back with the goods. Nice images, for sure.
I had some ski pants that kinda doubled for cargo pants. Really rad looking with pockets and straps and velcro attachments for the waist. . .looked like MadMax gear.
i was wearing them while on a shoot, somewhat casual but the velcro kept undoing and I was often standing around with my pants and zipper open only realizing when they started falling down. It was quite embarassing and i eventually used one of my mini-clamps that i keep in my bag to hold the wasit together.
