    E.s.u.

Title stands for "Electroshock Unit" the procedure that took place in this particular building. By the end of the life of the Asylum, the procedure was becoming lax, so the patients weren't getting strapped down.

They convulsed, and broke their own neck. There were X-Rays to prove that also.

As always, excellent shots. What exactly was the purpose of the "Electroshock Unit"... some kind of therapy?

It's still in use today, but it was used much more heavily in the past.

Plus ECT today is much more controlled and safer.

A couple of friends, one of whom has an old functioning ECT device was demonstrating it, in fact the other friend connected himself.

    Apparently hit hurts like hell.

Patients today are usually anesthetized as well.

Really creepy when you think how commonly it was used back then for any and all sorts of disorders, not all of which it helped with, for patients that were not required to give consent.

I think anytime you're electrocuting someone to give them 'controlled' seizures it's probably going to hurt.
