Say it isn't so! You've gone over to the dark side! Didn't you pay attention to Yoda?

Luke: "Is the dark side more powerful?"

    Yoda: "No! No. Quicker, easier."

And later Yoda gave these words of wisdom:

"Beware the dark side. Once you start down it's path, consume you it will."

Excuse me while I go have a good cry over another good man lost to the dark side...

All kidding aside, congratulations on your new toy!

    Great First Images!

Great first images. Beautiful color and sharp images, just think what you will be getting once you figure out all the features of your new toy. I love my film cameras. I've been an avid shooter for over 35 years, but I can't wait to get my hands on a good DSLR. Congradulations on the new addition to your camera family.

    You fell into the trap...

What people don't realize is that with a good digital YOU HAVE NO MORE EXCUSES!!!!

It takes some getting used to, but now you have the ability to really build on everything you've ever learned without any limitations.

Good lcuk with it and have fun!!

How to tell the most experienced shooter in a group? They have the least amount of toys on them.

    Thread Hijack

Nikon D100, nice toy...but if you're going to show off your new toy, I get to show off mine. I just bought a Canon 24-70 f2.8L, and listening to too many complaints on the net about bad QC, soft lenses, front/back focusing, bad infinity focusing, I tested the heck out of of it immediately. Fortunately, this is a great lens, razor sharp, and no focusing issues on my Digital Rebel. Here's a 100% crop of an f2.8 shot around 50 mm, ISO 400, Adobe RGB parameters, no sharpening. Yep, I shot myself in the eye, and it beats my 50 mm prime at the same aperature for contrast, though resolution is similar.

Edit: Sorry the color isn't showing well, I didn't convert to sRGB for the Net from Adobe RGB.

Thanks to all for taking a look. Now I'm off to Vegas for a few days. I'm sure I'll have something to share when I return. I may even have some candids of PJ after our outing at Ruth Chris Steak House!!

See y'all in a few days!

    You're gonna love...

this camera. It looks and feels great, and responds like a top SLR. Image quality is what it's all about, and the quality you've posted with your first shots should have you pleased. Congrats.

It's all fun and games until someone gets shot in the eye.

Glad you got a lense you seem to be pleased with. I've determined that it's a lot easier, on the web, to find people unhappy with their purchase than happy. I've been looking for a new wide angle, now that I've gone digital, 28mm (or 35mm on my camera) just isn't wide enough. So, I'm always excited to hear someones first hand experence, with a sample is even better.

Yeah, even 24mm (~38 equivalent) is a compromise on a 1.6 crop body! Only a 50 degree horizontal FOV. But, it's the best lens I could find to leave on the camera for general shooting. Maybe one day I'll get a 1.3 crop body and get up to a 60 degree FOV.
