Since I got my N80, I have photographed basketball, soccer, track, band, cheerleading, dance, football, etc. I've gotten quite a bit of practice taking action shots. And as you said, I've got a collection of memories.

Her dad is not that tall (5' 7"), and we're not sure where she gets her height. But she stands out in the crowd, whether it's her classmates, her cheerleading team, or her basketball team. Spotting her is usually easy.

The building where they play doesn't have stands/bleachers, so the spectators sit in chairs behind the baskets. Occassionally, you get a stray basketball lobbed into the crowd, so you do want to pay attention!

Sports photography is location, location, location. I tend to put myself under the net and take pictures as the action comes toward me. It gets the faces in and makes for very effective pictures.

No, her dad is not tall. Neither is her mother. But the long legs do run in the family. Her great-grandfather has long legs, as does his youngest son. I guess the genes are in there, somewhere.

The gym they played in was not overly large, and seating was tight. More than one parent deflected a stray shot to avoid being hit in the head!

But the kids had fun, and that's why we were there!

That is so true! It was interesting, that I could get on one corner and get lots of shots, but on another corner, either the action didn't come my way, or one of the ref's was constantly getting in the way. When that happened, I went to another corner.

Due to the limited space, and the seating arrangements, getting under the goal wasn't feasible. I did leave my camera bag behind the goal once, and a shot that went over the goal landed on it. Fortunately, nothing was damaged, but I moved my bag anyway!
